Furnished Room in Historic Uptown New Orleans Home (Shared Housing)

Full-Time or Part-Time Monthly Housemate

Beginning in September 2026, I’m looking for one compatible temporary housemate to share my beautifully restored historic home in Uptown New Orleans, in the Irish Channel near Magazine Street.

The house is... on a quiet, live-oak-shaded street, with public transportation one block away and convenient access to downtown, the universities, and the medical district. It is part of a small, friendly 15-residence community surrounding a lush courtyard and a large saltwater swimming pool.
The bedroom has plenty of natural light, hardwood floors, a double bed, desk and chair, bedside tables, dresser, ceiling fan, central air conditioning, and closet space. Kitchen use, washer and dryer, utilities, and reliable Wi-Fi are included.

Because this is my furnished guest room rather than an empty rental room, it also contains some of my academic books, artwork, and personal decorations. There is space available in the dresser and closet, but the arrangement will work best for someone traveling relatively lightly rather than moving an entire household.

I am open to either of the following arrangements:

Full-time temporary housemate: $900 per month, including utilities and Wi-Fi. A two- or three-month stay would be ideal, although there may be some flexibility.

Part-time housemate: Approximately $650–$700 per month, including utilities and Wi-Fi, depending on the schedule. This could be a particularly good fit for someone who needs a comfortable New Orleans base for only part of each week or month—for example, a visiting professor, researcher, clinician, consultant, or other professional who works in the city several days at a time. This would still be a monthly arrangement rather than a nightly or weekly rental.

I am a retired university professor and anthropologist. I speak Spanish and spent many years doing research in Cuba and Haiti. My home is colorful and welcoming, with artwork and books throughout. I am easygoing but also something of a neatnik, and I keep the shared areas clean and organized. I would enjoy living with someone who is tidy, considerate, and similarly comfortable maintaining a peaceful home.

The room could be especially suitable for a visiting scholar, graduate student, traveling healthcare professional, researcher, or another professional on a temporary assignment in New Orleans.
